Mossawa Center demands enhancement of transportation services from Halisa neighborhood to Abbas neighborhood schools and urges the Ministry of Transportation and Egged Company to respond immediately

Mossawa Center has submitted an official request to the Ministry of Transportation and Egged Company, demanding the reinforcement and increase in the number of buses from Halisa neighborhood to Abbas neighborhood and public schools in the area, in response to the growing concerns of students' parents, represented by Mrs. Rukaya Khatib who is following up on this matter, regarding their sons and daughters' ability to reach schools safely and on time.

Despite Egged's readiness to increase the number of buses, such a step requires approval from the Ministry of Transportation. In this context, Mossawa Center intends to intensively follow up on this matter with the relevant authorities, including Haifa Municipality, to ensure the fulfillment of this vital demand reflecting the needs and requirements of the area's students.

It is noted that bus number 6, which is the main means of transporting students from Halisa neighborhood through Hadar neighborhood to schools in Abbas neighborhood, currently operates at a rate of one trip per hour and uses a small bus to overcome the challenges of traffic congestion. However, this arrangement does not adequately meet the students' and residents' requirements, especially during the early morning hours, leading to frequent delays in students' arrival at their schools.

Mossawa Center emphasizes the importance of improving public transportation services, especially in marginalized neighborhoods in historic cities and Arab towns, and calls for immediate and effective actions to ensure the provision of a transportation service that meets students' needs and ensures their safe arrival at schools on time. This directly contributes to enhancing the academic achievement of Halisa neighborhood students and improving their daily quality of life.
