The Mossawa Center met the EU Parliamentary Human Rights committee


Several Delegations of European Parliamentarians in discussions on Minority Rights. 
The Mossawa Center recently met with the EU Parliamentary Human Rights committee along with other Human Rights organizations.  Several Delegations from the European Parliamentarian visited the region in the last weeks and met with the Mossawa representatives and political leaders of the Arab community to discuss Minority Rights protection and peace building.
On July 20th, Director Jafar Farah represented the Mossawa Center at a dinner in Jerusalem for civil society representatives hosted by the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Israel, Ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen.  In attendance were the Droi Chair Josef Weidenholzer, the Droi Delegation members - Ms. GodelieQuisthoudt-Rowohl, Ms. Therese Comodini Cachia, Ms. Kati Piri, and Ms. Beatriz Becerra, and the staff of the European Parliament – Mr. JarmoOikarinen, Ms. Brigitte Bataille, Mr. Benjamin Rey, Ms. Gabriela Virostkova, and Ms. Itziar Munoa Salaverria. Mr. Farah was invited to discuss Minority Rights and the situation of civil society in Israel; specifically, Mr. Farah discussed the Arab Minority human rights within the green line. 
On July 22nd, the Mossawa Center met a Delegation from the European Green Party, MEP Franziska Keller, MEP Pascal Durand, MEP Florent Marcellesi, MEP Klaus Buchner, MEP Bodil Valero, MEP Margrete Auken, MEP Judith Sargentini and Advisor of Human Rights Raphael Fisera. Mossawa was also able to facilitate a meeting between the Members of the Knesset Yousef Jabareen and Jamal Zahalka and the delegation to discuss the political capabilities of the Arab minority, specifically as seen in this past election, and the solidarity needed from abroad to further empower and capitalize on the current political drive.  After the meeting, the European Parliament Delegation met Dr. Yulia Zemlinsky from the Russian organization Morashtenu and Mr. Fentahun Assefa-Dawit, Executive Director from the Ethiopian NGO Tebeka – both represent different ethnic groups in Israel and were able to further discuss the avenues of European cooperation with their respective communities and the Arab community in Israel. 
On July 22nd, the Mossawa Center attended a Farewell Reception for the Political Attaché, Mr. Nobuyuki Kikuchi, of the Japanese Embassy. The Mossawa Center thanked Mr. Nobuyuki Kikuchi, the Japanese Political Attaché, for his efforts to engage with the Arab Community and specifically with the Mossawa Center. Director of the Mossawa Center Jafar Farah and the Mossawa Center’s International Relations Coordinator Samar Hawila, participated in the farewell reception, along with former Knesset Member Dr. Hanna Sweid, the Japanese Embassy’s political advisor, Hazar Al Hadi, and a number of political attaches.
On July 14th, the Mossawa Center met the Delegation from the Socialist Party of Cataluyna (PSC), First Secretary of the PSC Ferran Pedret, MEP Javi Lopez, Sara Jaurrieta, Aroa Arauzo and David Quirós.  Director of the Mossawa Center, Jafar Farah, arranged for a meeting  between the delegation members and Members of Knesset Dr. Ahmad TIibi, MK Dr. Basil Ghatas and MK Ayda Touma Soliman. While at the Knesset, Mr Farah discussed the minority rights of the Arab Citizens of Israel, specifically addressing the challenges faced with the current government coalition. All participants of the meeting agreed that there is a necessity to reactively as well as proactively preserve the international requisite which calls for the protection of the indigenous population in any nation- indigenous peoples such as the Palestinians in Israel and Catalans in Spain, thus, act in solidarity when calling for the mainstreaming of minority rights.
