National Demonstration in Tel Aviv Against Israeli Government Policies Toward Organized Crime in the Arab Community

The Mossawa Center affirms that Arab society has entered a new and irreversible phase in confronting organized crime and long-standing policies of neglect and repression a phase defined by breaking fear and engaging in collective, organized action in defense of the right to safety and a dignified life.
The protest movement, which began spontaneously, quickly expanded and persisted, transforming into a clear popular course imposed by a bloody reality that society is no longer willing to accept. This movement reflects a genuine public will to reclaim the streets and public spaces from the control of criminal organizations.

In recent days, demonstrations and protests have taken place in Sakhnin, Nazareth, Kafr Yasif, Umm al-Fahm, and other towns, alongside collective protest actions involving thousands of families. These actions included a one-hour electricity blackout, sending a clear message that silence has come to an end.

The movement has expanded to include doctors, physicians, professors, lawyers, educators, and professionals from diverse sectors of Arab society, who have joined the ongoing demonstrations and public actions. This broad participation reflects a deep and shared sense of responsibility and urgency across the community.

Families with children have taken to the streets, raising their voices against organized crime in Arab society and against the failure of the police to act. While law-abiding citizens face repression, arrests, and intimidation, criminal organizations continue to operate with near impunity, highlighting the deep contradiction at the heart of current policing policies.

Protest activities are expected to continue in the coming days, culminating in a large central demonstration in Tel Aviv this coming Saturday, as part of an organized and escalating civil struggle.
The Mossawa Center reiterates its support for all popular movements confronting crime and discriminatory government policies, emphasizing that this grassroots uprising requires sustained support, coordination, and protection. Responsibility for confronting this crisis is collective, resting with society, institutions, and the state alike.

Mossawa Center Director Jafar Farah stated:
“What took place in the repression of the Kafr Yasif demonstration, the arrest of former local council head attorney Shadi Shuwairi, the extension of his detention, and the appeal against the decision to release him, is further proof that the police target those who defend their rights and the rights of the public. We do not see the police showing the same determination or deploying these resources to pursue criminals and organized crime networks. We will continue our struggle to make our voices heard and to secure our people’s rights, despite persecution and intimidation.”

The Mossawa Center calls on international media representatives and foreign correspondents to attend and cover the demonstration this Saturday, 31.01.2026, at 6 pm from the Tel Aviv Museum to Habima Square in Tel Aviv, and to take part in raising international awareness of this painful and ongoing reality facing the Arab community.*
