The Mosswa Center Hosts Study Day on Palestinian Culture on November 15th in Nazareth

Haifa 08/11/13 ---- On Friday, November 15th, 2013, the Mossawa Center will host a study day on Palestinian culture in Israel entitled "Our Culture in the World of Cultural Pluralities". The conference, organized by the Mossawa Center and supported by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the European Union, will be attended by experts in culture, and professionals in visual arts, performance arts, literature and folklore from all over the country as well as media and members of the international community.
The study day, which was preceded by several round table discussions on corresponding subjects hosted by the Mossawa Center, will focus on the issue of Palestinian culture in Israel, which will be discussed in the Keynote,  "Preserving culture rights and increasing the "cultural spaces" for Palestinian art," followed by three roundtables on: Visual arts, Performance arts and Literature and folklore.

Areen Abdi the culture coordinator for the Mossawa Center said, "The study day will present local Palestinian culture and its challenges in a multicultural state. We will create cooperation between artists, culture organizations and supporting cultural networks. We expect that the cultural network will consist not only of local culture organisations, but will also reach out to cultural organizations in the broader international community."

The Mossawa Center focuses its mission on understanding the goals and problems of Palestinian culture in Israel. The questions that will be raised during this study day are: How to connect to Palestinian culture and the international cultural networks, and how to improve the capacities of talented local artists through statewide and international exposure, and solving their common challenges.

The Mossawa Center expects the conference to stimulate and activate the Palestinian Arab community, as well as the larger Israeli society and international community, to take further steps towards the protection of Palestinian culture rights in the country.  This conference is open to the general public and all members of civil and political society are encouraged to join us.  In order to participate, please contact the Mossawa Center before November 8th.
