The Mossawa Center Proudly Announces the Beginning of the Fifth Annual Palestinian Culture Month

The Mossawa Center organized the first “Month of Culture” in 2012. It is with great pride that we announce the opening of the 5th annual Palestinian Culture Month, organized in cooperation with cultural institutions from the whole of the Palestinian community in Israel.

Originally, the idea behind the choice of March is due the numerous dates of significance both locally and internationally, beginning with International Women's Day  (March 8th), The National Day of Palestinian Culture (March 13th), World Storytelling Day (March 20th),  Arab Mother's Day (march 21st), and Palestinian Land Day (March 3rd) - all of which contain national, humanitarian, and cultural elements.

The wide-range of activities and events that are planned throughout the month will take place in the many Arab and mixed localities across the country. The topic and themes of the events are derived from humanitarian, national, and individual concerns, along with a striving for peace, equality, justice, and respect for one's self as well as for others.

Speaking about the important activities and events of the month, Areen Adbi Community Organizer and Culture Rights Project Coordinator announced that ”The Month of culture is different this year than in years past. Our beloved author Salman Natour will not be able to join us in body but his spirit will remain with us. This year is not like the previous years of the Month of Culture which has been adopted by the local authorities and various centers and organizations of culture. The uniqueness of activities this month begins with a remembrance of "Land Day" while we are honoring International Women's day and the international day for the struggle against racism. The activities will be spread through out all the cities and towns of the country.  It is an initiative of entrepreneurs and the vision of local artists aimed at promoting Palestinian-Arab culture in Israel and the oPt. The content of the Month of Culture is drawn from national and personal frustration and the desire for peace, justice, equality and respect for self and for others.”

This year’s month will open with a Jazz music show at Beit Almoseqa in Haifa, a Bazar at a shopping center in Tamra and a screening of the movie “Al-Matlobon” by Amer Alshomaly in cooperation with Cinemana in Nazareth, on March 4th.
