Mossawa to Present on Being an Active Citizen in Arab Schools in the Negev

On the occasion of the month of Palestinian Culture which was proudly opened last week, Mossawa was asked by two schools from Rahat in the Negev to give presentations about being active citizens ,human rights and other citizenship fields.

Altogether, lectures and presentations for around 210 students from 2 schools in Rahat, will be given by Mossawa staff including; the director of the Mossawa Center, Jafar Farah, the project coordinator for Cultural Projects and member of the Haifa City Council Areen Abdi, legal advisor to the Mossawa Center, Sameh Iraqi and project Coordinator of the Socio-economic unit, Desiree Latif.

We emphasize that it’s of vast importance tobuild the capacities of the younger generations and educate them on their role in building thestatus and future of the Palestinian community in Israel.Mossawa believes that youth have an important role in developing their communities. Participating in workshops such as those on Sunday raise the awareness of youth on their rights provides youth with the tools to take action to protect them and to develop a future vision for the Arab minority in Israel.
On February 21th Mossawa held a workshop for 60 students from Haifa’s Orthodox College on International Mother Tongue Day on the status of Arabic as an official language in Israel. During this workshop Mossawa’s director Jafar Farah explained the importance of maintaining our Arabic language, and how to face the discriminationthe Arab community facesin an attempt prevent them from practicing their right to speak in their native language.
This study day in Rahatis part of a series of similar events to promote culture in the Palestinian community, raise awareness among youth about their rights and teach them how to be active citizens.
